This past week we’ve been fighting a flu like bug.  It really knocked Hubby, ds and myself for a loop.  The girls were a little sick as well.  Thankfully it didn’t last long, although I’m still fighting it.  I’m sure if I can get enough rest it will pass quickly.

Wednesday we had a cold front move through.  Thankfully the heavy rain and storms staid south of us!  I was finally well enough to head out to the garden this afternoon.  I did a lot of weeding, still have much more to do before I will be caught up.  But weeds or not, the garden is producing great!

I harvested a large bowl of cucumbers, 4 more zucchinis and our first cabbage.  Then from the children garden we harvested more cucumbers, a few purple beans and cherry tomatoes.

Huckleberry’s

Okra finally starting!  This will be our first time growing and eating this.  Anyone have good recipes I can try?

Eggplant flower, I think they are pretty!

Sunflowers starting to bloom in the kids garden!

  • Sure hope you are all feeling well soon. Will continue praying for you.

Your garden is doing awesome…wow, what a great bounty.

    Blessings!

  • I have heard of huckleberries but I’ve never seen any till now. Now I know what they look like!

I hope you’re all feeling better soon. It’s no fun being sick in the middle of the summer when you just want to be outside!

    Hi ,

Sorry to hear you all have been ill, will pray for your continued healing.

Just love looking at your garden produce, I so miss my father and my gardening in both CA and TX. My father passed in 2003 and we moved to Anchorge, AK, I live on the 4th floor of an apartment building. Miss being on the ground with a garden always! Hubby has gotten me a small indoor greenhouse, growing herbs, and ivy, need more practice at growing in a greenhouse tho, only things I can harvest are chives, parsley, and colander so far, growing tomatoe plants and pepper plants for salsa, hopefully they will produce, if not will try again.
We always grew okra. Love it any way you can prepare it. We always froze it to use later in the year.

    To boil an eat :

rinse to clean medium to small size pods.
cook on boil unitl pods are very fork tender. Drain , salt n pepper, and melted butter and eat. Good with fried taters , red onion slices, corn on the cob, sliced tomatoes and fried chicken or a pot of pinto beans n ham.

    fried okra

cut pods into 1/4-1/2 inch pieces , dip in milk or buttermilk , dip in cornmeal/flour mixture and fry until tender and golden. Good to eat with anything or dip in ranch dressing! yum

    okra n tomatoes
cut into 1 inch pieces and cook with stewed tomatoes add zucchini if you like -yoummy with scalloped potatoes as side dishes etc

some people pickle okra also and eat as snacks, we jut never tryed it that way.

put in whole pods in gumbo ! good that way.

and we always added to our homemade beef n veggie soup every year , delicious.
    Hope this helped!
    Have a great weekend,
    Nanareth in Anchorage, AK
