Soft Bread Machine Dinner Rolls

You can make the dinner roll dough by hand or make it in your bread maker to save time. Do you like saving time?

Heck ya, I sure do! So make good use of your kitchen appliances to get more done in less time. This is my favourite bread machine we have 2 of them to keep up with our large family.

Now using your bread machine to make dinner rolls is really easy, but you will have to be around the house to know when the dough cycle is finished so you can take the dough out of the bread maker.

How To Make Dinner Rolls By Hand

Step 1. Make The Yeast Mixture

In a large mixing bowl combine your warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir it together and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Step 2. Add The flour And Other Ingredients

Stir in the melted butter, salt, and eggs. Once they are well mixed then start adding the flour a little at a time so that it mixes together well.

Step 3. Knead

Turn the dough out onto a well-floured surface and knead by hand for 10 minutes. The dough should be slightly sticky but easy to handle.

Step 4. Rise

Transfer the dough into a greased bowl and cover the dough and let it rise until it has doubled in size.

Step 5. For The Dinner Rolls

Punch the dough down to deflate it. Then pull off sections of the dough and form it into rolls. I just do this by eye but you can weigh each roll to make sure they are exactly the same size if you like.

Step 6. Rise Again

Place the dinner rolls onto a greased baking sheet or a 9×13 baking pan. Then cover them and let them rise for 30 minutes.

If you place the rolls close together they will join as they rise. This will give you nice soft edges that tear apart just like grandmas classic dinner rolls I remember!

If you prefer to have rounder dinner rolls then place them 2 inches apart on your baking sheet so they don’t touch as they rise and bake.

Step 7. Bake

Place the dinner rolls into a pre-warmed oven at 350F and bake them for 20-25 minutes.

When they are golden brown on the top and cooked through remove them from the oven and baste the tops with melted butter.

Hello Kim: I was able to print ( via printer friendly) your Chili Recipe, but when attempting to print the recipe for Fresh Rolls it was a whopping 15 pages!!? šŸ˜¬. Talk about paper and ink waste! Is there something Iā€™m missing? I just couldnā€™t find a prompt for a ā€œprinter friendlyā€ Fresh Rolls Recipe. (I get that the Rolls recipe is all one recipe with both the bread machine and ā€œby handā€options. So, Iā€™d love to get your ā€œRollsā€ recipe because I LOVE your recipes!! Thanks and God Bless.

Hi Terri you don't need to use the print friendly browser plugin to print my recipes. That will print the entire article including all photos making it very long. Instead, use the print button in the recipe card at the bottom of the post and it only prints the recipe. I just checked it for this recipe and it prints at 1 1/2 pages if you need it smaller than that then you can use your printer settings to scale down it by percentage to make it fit on one page. I hope that helps and I'm so glad you enjoy the recipes!
