Make keeping track of your pantry inventory and planning your food preservation easy with this printable pantry and food preservation planner.

One of the most important things you can do to help your family is to keep a well-stocked pantry.  At one-time pantry, keeping was something every homemaker practiced.

My grandmother would never have thought to buy groceries for only a few days at a time.

Being from the generation who lived through the great depression, World War 2, and multiple recessions, she knew that shopping smart and keeping a well-stocked pantry helped to shield her family from the bumps that life can throw at you.

Sadly more and more, the practice of keeping a home pantry has started to fade away.

However, the same important reasons for keeping our family’s pantries stocked still remain true.

Keeping a well-stocked pantry:

  • Protects you against inflation
  • Saves you money
  • Saves you time
  • Increases the quality of food you eat
  • Protects you from emergencies

But just filling your cupboards with food isn’t good enough, you need a plan.

For me this means:

  1. Growing as much of our own food as possible.
  2. Buying fresh produce in bulk when it’s in season and on sale. Yes, that means buying bushels of cucumbers, tomatoes and 50 + pounds of carrots when they are a good deal to supplement what we grow.
  3. Rotating our meals with the seasons. Eating meals with root vegetables in the fall and winter, enjoying fresh salads in the spring and summer. When you eat in season you can really reduce your grocery cost.
  4. Buying meat in bulk from a local butcher. We buy large amounts of fresh meat that while it may not be organic it is high quality and has no fillers. So we use less meat in our recipes!
  5. Using the local flyers to know what the best deals are at each store and only buying items that are on sale.
  6. Planning our meals out at least 1 week at a time. I plan our meals based on what we already have on hand and then supplement with the items that are on sale that week.

Keeping Your Pantry

Keeping your food storage stocked up saves you money, but only if you’re not over-buying supplies you already have plenty of and only if you use that food before it expires.

The same idea applies when we are canning, dehydrating, and freezing our own food.  Whether you’re growing your own food or buying local in-season produce to put up, you will make the best use of your time and money by keeping careful track of what you already have in your pantry, fridge, and freezer.

That’s where these simple, easy to use printable pantry forms come in handy.  I’ve tried to make these forms simple enough that they are practical to use.

They are not complicated to set up and keep track of.  Just simply print the forms you need and fill in your supplies and quantities.  All of the forms are undated so you can enjoy using them year after year.

Form Overview

Binder Cover & Spine

A binder cover and spine you can print off to decorate your binder. The cover is best printed in borderless printing mode if your printer is able to do that. Otherwise print normally but you will have a small white margin around the image. It can be trimmed off if you like.

The binder spine is sized for 1 1/2 inch binder.

12 Monthly Planning Pages

One ready-to-print planner for each month of the year, with space to record what you plan to make and what you need to buy.  This is a great place to record what fruit, vegetables, and canning supplies you will need to have ready in advance.

Each monthly planning form also includes a list of what produce is normally in season for that month.

Printable Inventory Lists

Inventory lists for your pantry, fridge, freezer, and long-term food storage all included basic food categories and leave plenty of room to write in your lists and quantities.

The food preserving plan form is one of my favourite printables.  Here you have 1 form for fruit and 1 form for vegetables.  It’s an easy way to keep track of each variety of fruit and vegetable and how much of each you want to can, freeze, dehydrate or any other type of preservation you would like to use.

I use this as my master to-do list during the summer.  When I’ve finished putting up the number of jars I had pre-planned then I know I can stop or gift our extra produce.  Likewise, if I don’t have enough garden produce to fill my ideal quota then I know I need to buy more.

Printable Shopping Lists

Included are 2 shopping list forms grouped by category.

Supplies On Hand

This form is great to keep track of the supplies you keep on hand.  It could be for ingredients or kitchen tools.  One side lists the supplies you have on hand and the other side lists what you need to buy.

One way to use this form is to keep it as a master list and use tally marks to show how many of an item you have.  As you use each one add another mark to the to buy column.

Notes

Finally, there are 3 blank pages for notes.  These can be copied as many times as you need to and kept in your homemaking notebook.  You could use these to keep track of new recipes you’ve tried, who you want to gift canned goods to etc.

I use these forms to keep track of all my canning and food preservations needs. With them I always know just what is in my pantry, what produce is in season to plan my meals with, and know what I need to can, freeze, or dehydration for my food storage.

Printable Recipe Pages

Fill your harvest notebook with your favorite recipes using this printable recipe page. 2 pages are included so you can print double-sided if you like to save on paper.

Food Storage Guidelines
