- 1 (10-pound ) bone-in precooked smoked ham
- 3 cups water
Glaze
- 1 (14-ounce can) whole berry cranberry sauce
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup orange juice
Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C).
Place the ham flat side down in a roasting pan.
Optional: Cut diagonal lines or a diamond pattern about 1/8 inch deep into the top and sides of the ham. This helps the glaze soak into the meat for more flavor.
Add water to the bottom of the pan (about 1/2 inch deep) and cover tightly with foil.
Bake for 15-18 minutes per pound, or according to package directions, until heated through.
In a small saucepan, combine the cranberry sauce, brown sugar, and orange juice. Cook while stirring over low heat just until the brown sugar has dissolved. Remove from the heat and let cool.
During the last 30 minutes of cooking, remove the ham from the oven and brush it with half of the glaze.
Increase the oven temperature to 400°F (204°C) and return the ham to the oven, uncovered, until the glaze caramelizes and the ham reaches 140°F (60°C).
Remove from the oven, let rest, then slice and drizzle with the remaining glaze before serving.
- Cooking times vary by brand. The USDA says 15-18 minutes per pound for a precooked, bone-in smoked ham, and Cook's hams say 10-15 minutes per pound. Check your package and use a thermometer.
- If your ham has been repackaged rather than sold in its original USDA-inspected package, heat it to 165°F (74°C).
- Keeps in the fridge for 3 to 5 days, or in the freezer for 1 to 2 months.
