How To Freeze Currants

I love freezing currants so that I can enjoy them all year! You can use frozen currants just like fresh ones in your cooking. They are perfect in your favourite baking recipes or for making jams and jellies. Use these simple tips to make freezing red or black currants easy.

Ingredients

  • Currants

Instructions

  • Rinse your destemmed currants under cool water to remove any bugs, leaves or other debris.
  • Then spread them out on a tea towel to dry.
  • Once the berries are fully dry measure them into freezer bags.
  • Remove the air from the bags and then place them in the freezer in a single layer until frozen solid. Then stack any way you like.

Notes

You can freeze currants in any measurement that is convenient for you. I like to do 2 cup portions as I find that works well for baking.
