One of the simplest ways to control earwigs in your garden is to sprinkle diatomaceous earth around the base of the plants. Earwigs and other insects don’t like to crawl through this irritating, natural powder.

Make a simple newspaper trap. Tie a small stack of newspapers together and then dampen them a little. Place them into your garden in the evening. In the morning place the newspapers into a bucket of soapy water to drown the earwigs.

Another way is to fill a small can (tuna or cat food sized works well) halfway up with vegetable oil. Place this in the garden close to the plants that the earwigs are feeding on. They will easily get trapped in the can.

Place a sticky trap like petroleum jelly or tanglefoot around the base of your trees. Earwigs and other pests will become stuck in the trap and unable to feed on your tree.

Try keeping ducks in your garden, they feed on earwigs and many other pests without causing as much damage as chickens.

Create a good environment in your garden to encourage toads and birds who can be a big help in keeping pests in control.
