If you’re looking for an easy fall side dish, you’ll love this easy whole roasted butternut squash with honey. It bakes until tender and caramelized with melted butter, honey, and cinnamon for a cozy fall flavor that’s perfect for a family dinner or a holiday party.
Butternut squash has always been one of my favorite fall vegetables. So, of course, I grow lots of butternut squash in my garden.
There are so many ways to enjoy squash, a simple butternut squash puree is a classic side, or this brown sugar roasted butternut squash is another family favorite. But combining honey with squash brings out another wonderful flavor.
This recipe is so simple to prepare, beautiful to serve, and pairs perfectly with roasted turkey, ham, or chicken. It’s a great addition to your Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner table.
You can serve it in slices or scoop and mash it with the sweet honey butter for a softer side.
Ingredients
- 1 butternut squash
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
How To Make Whole Roasted Butternut Squash With Honey
1. Preheat The Oven
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2. Prepare The Squash
Wash the butternut squash, cut it in half lengthwise, and scoop out the seeds. Place the squash cut side up on a baking sheet or roasting pan.
3. Baste And Bake
Baste the top of the squash with the melted butter, making sure to pour the extra butter into the squash’s hollow opening. Then place it in the oven and bake for 40 minutes.
4. Add The Honey And Finish Baking
Remove the squash from the oven and drizzle with honey, making sure to add lots to the hollow. Next, sprinkle over top with cinnamon.
Place the squash back into the oven and continue baking for another 20 minutes, until the squash is tender and easily pierced with a knife.
5. Serve
Serve as slices with the extra honey butter from the center drizzled over top, or scoop out the squash and mash before serving.
How To Store And Reheat
Refrigerator: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days. You can keep it sliced or mashed.
Freezer: For longer storage, mash the squash and freeze it in freezer-safe containers or bags for up to 3 months.
Reheating: Warm the squash in the oven at 350°F for 10 to 15 minutes, or reheat single servings in the microwave until heated through. Stir in or drizzle over a little extra honey or butter if needed to moisten it.
