This easy garlic bread recipe is packed with flavor and takes just a few minutes to make. It has herbs, butter, and lots of delicious garlic flavor, perfectly toasted. This easy homemade garlic bread recipe is delicious served with your favorite pasta dishes, BBQs, and comfort foods.

Growing up we always had bread with our meals. It was the best way to stretch a meal and add a lot of flavor to your dinner as well.

One of my favorite bread recipes is this great garlic bread recipe. It uses simple ingredients and can be made with homemade bread or make it even easier and grab a loaf from the bakery. Perfect to serve with spaghetti, baked pasta, homemade pizza, or alongside your favorite soups and salads.

Ingredient Notes

French bread – You can use any type of bread but I love using French bread to make garlic bread because it makes a crispier garlic bread than sandwich bread. French bread makes a nice crispy crust to the bread but the inside stays soft and fluffy.

You can use homemade French bread or grab a loaf from the grocery store. If you can’t find it Italian bread also works well. Don’t confuse French bread with French baguettes, while you can use baguettes for garlic bread I find they turn harder while baking and don’t have that nice fluffy texture.

Butter – I always use salted butter, if you use unsalted butter then make sure to add a little salt to the garlic butter for flavor.

Garlic – Real garlic gives homemade garlic butter an amazing flavor. But if you don’t have it on hand you could substitute garlic powder.

Parsley – Most of the time I use dried parsley flakes but you can also use fresh parsley. When we have it growing fresh in the summer garden I enjoy picking it fresh and using it to add a nice pop of color to recipes.

Black pepper – Helps to add flavor to the garlic butter.

How To Make Garlic Bread

In a small saucepan add the softened butter, minced garlic, and black pepper. Melt the butter mixture over low heat, stirring occasionally until the butter has fully melted.

Using a serrated knife slice the French bread in half lengthwise and place onto a large baking sheet with the cut sides facing up.

When your garlic butter is ready remove it from the heat and using a basting brush cover the cut sides of the bread with the garlic butter mixture.

Then sprinkle parsley flakes over the top and bake at 350F for 10 minutes or until golden brown to your liking. A shorter baking time will give you softer garlic bread, a longer time is better if you like a crispier bread.

If the edges of the bread start to get too dark before the garlic bread is done, cover it loosely with aluminum foil to prevent burning.

Remove from the oven and let the bread cool slightly, then cut into slices and serve.

Substitutions and Additions

Olive oil – I prefer to use real butter but you can easily substitute olive oil.

Fresh herbs – If you have them on hand you can use fresh parsley. Oregano is another great choice to add flavor to your garlic bread. You can also use Italian seasoning if you prefer to use a dried herb mixture.

Parmesan cheese – If you have it on hand sprinkling some Parmesan cheese over top of the bread before baking is delicious!

How To Store Garlic Bread

To store cooked garlic bread let it completely to room temperature. Then place it into an air tight container. Store for 2-3 days in the refrigerator or 1 day at room temperature.

How To Reheat Leftover Garlic Bread

To reheat garlic bread in the oven wrap it in foil and bake at 350F for 10-15 minutes, or until heated.

You can also reheat garlic bread in the microwave for about 30 seconds or in an air fryer for 1-2 minutes.

How To Freeze Garlic Bread

Uncooked garlic bread is really easy to freeze. After spreading the garlic butter over the bread place it into an air tight container. A large gallon sized freezer bag works well.

When ready to use just place the bread on a baking pan and add a few extra minutes to the baking time.
