It can be hard around the holidays to keep true to that calm and peaceful spirit of joy.  Everywhere we go we are surrounded by bright lights and busyness encouraging us to move faster, buy more, and attend just one more party.

It can be absolutely exhausting, right?

But the truth is Christmas isn’t about the lights, the gifts, or the parties.

Christmas isn’t about the big dinner either.  These are all lovely things but they are not the reason we celebrate Christmas.

It’s about our Saviour Jesus Christ, this is the only real reason our family celebrates the Christmas season.

As simple and obvious as this is I can find myself sometimes being sucked into the Christmas rush.  It all comes back to the worrying.

• When the worry starts to set in about finding the perfect gift for this person or that
• When I start to worry about having the decorations “just so”

One thing I do that helps me keep a feeling of peace and calmness in my home is to decorate in a simplistic style.  I like to keep things simple, vintage and a little rustic.  That’s why I love chalkboard printables so much.  I find that keeping things simple brings a natural atmosphere of peace to our home.  Yes even through the normal crazies of large family living!
