Every gardener needs a garden journal.  You might think that you’ll remember when you started each type of seed, when it was transplanted into your garden and how much that plant produced, but come winter I find it’s very hard to remember all these little details!

Keeping a garden journal helps you to know

  • What you planted.
  • When you planted it.
  • Where you bought the seed.
  • The weather conditions of that growing year.
  • How the plant yielded.

These are the very basics of what you should record in your garden journal.

I’ve used various systems for keeping garden logs in the past as I was finishing up my journal for this year I decided to expand it a little and share it as a gift to you!

Sample page forms from the free printable garden journal.

In this free printable garden journal you will find:

A Garden Log –  This is a printable garden log to keep track of your daily garden notes.  I keep a set in our greenhouse to make notes while I’m out working in the garden.

There is space to record the planting year, variety name, seed source, when you planted, transplanted and harvested from that plant.  There is also lots of room for general notes.

First & Last Frost Date Form – A helpful page to record when you have your first and last frost each year.

22 Decorated Plant Specific Journal Pages –  These forms are similar to the garden log but each page is dedicated to one type of plant.

I use these at the end of the garden season to transfer notes from the garden log into my main garden journal.  Over time, you build a wonderful record of how each plant grows in your garden.

22 Plant Undecorated Journal Pages –  These are the same as the decorated pages but without the clipart making it print-friendly.

1 Untitled Journal Page –  Do you grow a plant that I don’t have a premade page for?  Use this to print your own blank journal pages.
