If you’re looking for an easy holiday dessert that feels special without any fuss, these cranberry squares are perfect. They’re soft, buttery, and filled with a sweet-tart layer of cranberries, topped with a golden, buttery crumb.
This cranberry squares recipe is one of my favorite make-ahead treats for Thanksgiving or Christmas. It uses simple ingredients, comes together quickly, and looks so festive on a holiday dessert table.
It’s an easy dessert recipe you’ll want to make over and over again.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup butter, cold
- 1 large egg
- 2 cups cranberry sauce – Both whole berry and cranberry jelly work great.
How To Make Cranberry Squares
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13 baking pan with parchment paper, then set it aside.
In a large bowl, add the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt, and stir until combined.
Add the butter and cut the butter into pea-sized pieces using two knives or a pastry blender.
Beat the egg, and then stir it into the mixture until it starts to get crumbly.
Spread 2/3rds of the flour mixture into the 9×13-inch baking dish and press it down to make a crust.
Then spread the cranberry sauce evenly over the top of the crust.
Next, sprinkle the remaining flour mixture over the cranberries.
Bake until the top is golden brown, about 40 minutes.
Let the square cool completely before slicing into bars.
