Easy Homemade Ketchup

This homemade ketchup recipe is made with crushed tomatoes, onion, garlic, vinegar, and simple pantry spices for a rich, flavorful condiment that’s easy to make. It cooks down into a thick, smooth ketchup with a classic flavor that tastes so good on burgers, fries, sandwiches, and more.
I love making this easy ketchup recipe, it tastes so much better than store-bought. This recipe comes together in one pot and uses simple ingredients you likely already have on hand.
I often use homemade canned crushed tomatoes, but store-bought works great too. It also makes a great base for my homemade BBQ sauce.

Ingredients
- 1 (28 oz) can of crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/3 cup of white vinegar
- 1 medium-sized onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
How To Make Homemade Ketchup
Add the crushed tomatoes, water, sugar, vinegar, onion, garlic, salt, and black pepper to a medium-sized saucepan.
Bring everything to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
Once boiling, reduce the heat and let the ketchup simmer for 40 to 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and use a stick blender to puree the mixture until smooth.
Let the ketchup cool, then transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate.
