Ingredient Notes
Rolled oats – Also called old-fashioned oats or large flake oats, these are larger and hardier than minute oats.
Brown sugar – Helps the top to crisp and brown and adds sweetness to the dish.
Baking powder – It helps the oatmeal to rise and taste lighter, almost cake-like.
Ground cinnamon – Adds a lovely warmth and flavor to the dish.
Salt – Enhances the flavor of the other ingredients.
Eggs – These add some protein to the dish and help to bind the ingredients together. You can also substitute applesauce or mashed bananas.
Milk – Adds a wonderful flavor to the dish, but you can also use water, or an alternative milk like coconut or almond milk.
Butter – Adds to the richness of the oatmeal bake, but you can substitute vegetable oil or coconut oil.
Vanilla – Always a must, it helps to enhance the sweetness and flavors.
Frozen mixed fruit – I like to keep bags of frozen mixed berries on hand. It makes this recipe so quick to make. The one I use is a mix of blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and whole strawberries. You can also use fresh fruit if you have it on hand.
